ADSL

ADSL Based Dedicated Internet Access

eXcerta's ADSL based Internet access service offering is the perfect solution for organizations looking for a cost-effective, dedicated link to the Internet.

ADSL technology provides clients with multi-megabit, high speed digital transmission over standard, copper-based telephone lines and/or copper loops. ADSL is a dedicated, "always-on" service, with no dialing required. A single high speed ADSL connection can provide sufficient Internet bandwidth for all of your organization's requirements.eXcerta has invested significant resources to provide clients with the highest-quality ADSL service possible. eXcerta's ADSL deployment is powered end-to-end by ultra-reliable, industrial-strength Cisco/Alcatel equipment.

If your Internet access is mission-critical to your business, eXcerta offers a high-availability ADSL service called "Enterprise ADSL". The Enterprise ADSL service combines two, separate ADSL services into a load-balanced, failure-resistant, multi-megabit service. If one of the ADSL connections fails for any reason, all of your traffic will be sent out the active link until the failed link recovers. Also, in most cases, the load balancing feature of the Enterprise ADSL service provides double the performance of a single ADSL connection.

All of eXcerta's ADSL clients can take advantage of eXcerta's renowned, high-quality network and support services, including:

» live technical support
» Redundant, multi-homed network architecture
» Multi-homed Internet backbone with DS-3, OC-3 and Gigabit Ethernet connections using BGP-4 routing protocol
» Efficient infrastructure utilizing Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) for the most efficient IP traffic routing

ADSL - What the Customer Requires

All hardware components of the service are provisioned by eXcerta and included with the service. Depending on your location, the service may have to be provisioned over one (or more if Enterprise) of your existing telephone lines or over a new copper loop installed by eXcerta.

Important Note:

If the service is being provisioned over an existing line, the line must be an unloaded line (also known as a 1FL line). For best results do not add any additional services to line (i.e. caller-id, call waiting) and only have one jack installed on the line.

The ADSL device supplied by eXcerta will connect directly to your network. You are responsible for providing the Ethernet hub/switch port to connect the device to your network facilities.

You may choose to place a firewall between the Internet connection and your network for security purposes. Contact eXcerta if you require information on firewall software/hardware or assistance with the installation or configuration of your firewall. Installation of the service takes between two and three weeks.

Enterprise ADSL - Service Details:

This service consists of two full-rate ADSL connections provisioned over two completely separate ADSL terminating devices, two completely separate ADSL networks, and two completely separate routers at eXcerta's Internet Data Centre. A failure on one of the ADSL connections will still leave you with full connectivity on the other ADSL connection. The other key benefit is while both connections are up and working (which will be the normal case 99+% of the time), traffic to and from your network will be load-balanced over both of the ADSL connections! In most cases, this will provide your company with a significant performance gain over a single ADSL connection.

  • Utilizes two separate Performance ADSL connections provisioned over two completely separate ADSL Networks, Devices and Routers.
  • One of the connections will be provisioned over one of your existing phone/fax lines, the other over a new line installed by eXcerta.
  • A Cisco router is supplied with this service as the load-balancing/fail over device.
  • This service will work with your existing eXcerta provided IP space - if you already have one ADSL connection with eXcerta; this service is simply an "upgrade".
